Some roofs come with a view. This Winthrop home backs onto a stretch of bushland, and from up on the tiles you look straight out over gum trees and open ground, with the rest of the suburb rolling away in the other direction. Not a bad outlook for Shehan Gunasinghe and the team while they worked.

The roof itself is a hipped design in charcoal concrete tile, with several faces rather than one big one. The 9.975kW solar system was split into groups across those faces, each laid square to the tile lines with the hooks fitted under the tiles. The array reads as a neat set of blocks rather than a scatter of odd panels.

On the ground, the battery went against the cream brick beside a side door, under cover and out of the weather. It’s a Sigenergy SigenStor with a 5kW controller and two battery modules, giving the home 18.08kWh of storage. A steel bollard stands at the corner, with the isolator and signage on the wall above.

Close to 10kW of panels with 18kWh of storage is a comfortable pairing. There’s enough generation on a clear day to run the house and fill the battery well before the afternoon, and enough storage to carry the evening. SigenStor is modular too, so the stack can grow if the household’s needs do.
If you’re nearby, we’ve also installed in Murdoch and Kardinya, both a few minutes away.
