Government Grants & Rebates for Solar and Battery Systems in WAMaximise your savings with clean energy incentives

Government incentives continue to play a major role in reducing the upfront cost of solar panels and battery storage in Western Australia. These incentives are delivered through a combination of federal and state programs and are designed to support the transition to cleaner, more reliable energy systems.

Below is an overview of the current solar and battery rebates available to eligible households and businesses in WA, including key dates, eligibility requirements, and how each incentive works.

What incentives are available?

Federal Incentives

Federal Battery Rebate – Cheaper Home Batteries Program

From 1 July 2025, the federal government will introduce the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, providing an upfront rebate for eligible battery storage systems.

This program is designed to significantly reduce battery costs and encourage households and small businesses to store excess solar energy rather than exporting it to the grid.

Key points

  • Starts 1 July 2025
  • Available for batteries between 5 kWh and 100 kWh
  • Rebate delivered through a certificate-style discount, similar to solar STCs
  • Value of the rebate declines gradually until 2030
  • Battery must be installed with a new or existing solar system
  • System must be installed by an approved installer

The federal government has committed substantial long-term funding to this program, with regular reviews to ensure it remains effective as battery uptake increases.

Federal Solar Rebate (Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme – SRES)

The federal government provides an upfront discount on eligible solar panel systems through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

This rebate is applied at the time of installation and is delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). The value of the rebate depends on system size, location, and the year of installation.

Key points

  • Applies to residential and small business solar systems up to 100 kW
  • Rebate is applied upfront by the installer
  • STC values reduce each year until the scheme ends in 2030
  • Earlier installation means a higher rebate

This means households installing solar sooner generally receive a larger discount than those who wait.

State Incentives (Western Australia)

The coat of arms of Western Australia

WA Residential Battery Scheme

The WA Residential Battery Scheme provides additional support for Western Australian households installing home battery systems. This scheme includes both rebates and no-interest loans and operates alongside the federal battery rebate.

Battery rebates

Eligible households may receive:

  • Synergy customers:
$130 per kWh of battery capacity, capped at $1,300
  • Horizon Power customers:
$380 per kWh of battery capacity, capped at $3,800

Rebates are applied after installation and are subject to eligibility criteria and program availability.

No-interest loans

Eligible households may also access:

  • No-interest loans of up to $10,000
  • Loan terms of up to 10 years
  • Available to households meeting income and property eligibility requirements

No-interest loans will also be available for up to $10,000 to households with a combined annual income of less than $210,000. Loan repayment periods will be up to 10 years.

To receive a battery rebate and/or no-interest loan through the scheme, eligibility requirements apply, including participation in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

Loan availability is limited and subject to assessment and approval.

Combining Federal and State Incentives

In many cases, households may be eligible to combine the federal battery rebate with the WA Residential Battery Scheme, significantly reducing the total installed cost of a battery system.

Eligibility depends on:

  • Location
  • Electricity retailer (Synergy or Horizon Power)
  • Battery size and model
  • Household income (for loans)
  • Installation timing

Not all systems or households will qualify for every incentive, and program rules may change over time.

Important Notes on Eligibility and Timing

  • Incentive values change over time and may be subject to funding caps
  • Solar STC rebates decline each year until 2030
  • Battery rebate values also reduce gradually over the life of the programs
  • Installations must meet current Australian Standards and program requirements
  • Only approved products and installers are eligible

For this reason, it is important to assess incentives at the time of quoting rather than relying on general estimates.

Understanding What Applies to Your Home

Government incentives can be complex and vary depending on your circumstances. Battery size, solar system capacity, location, and energy retailer all play a role in determining eligibility and rebate values.

Our team stays across current federal and Western Australian energy policies and can explain how available incentives apply to your property and energy goals.

If you would like help understanding what rebates or loans may be available, or how upcoming changes could affect your system design, we are happy to talk it through.

Why act now?

  • Rebates and loan offers are time-limited and subject to availability.
  • Combining solar with battery storage maximises rebate value and reduces pay-back time.
  • With rising energy costs, installing sooner locks in lower grid reliance and higher bill savings.
  • Premium solar + battery systems installed by DMG Solar and Electrical are VPP-ready and compliant with current standards, ensuring your system qualifies for incentive schemes.

5 Reasons to Convert to Solar Energy

Solar power is environmentally friendly

Unlike conventional power, solar power produces no emissions that harm the environment. It’s a clean, renewable process that uses the most natural of all resources: The Sun.

You can use your Solar Power all day.

One of the many myths about solar power involves perceived limitations on the energy-generating potential of solar panels. Solar energy is generated from daylight, not sunlight. So even on cloudy, rainy days, your panels will be working to produce energy. All that energy accumulates in the morning and afternoon hours, the whole time that the sun is up, producing more electricity than you can use.

It’s a solid home investment.

Many home improvements that you will make won’t add quite the equal value to your house as the money that you put into them. Solar energy, on the other hand, will deliver huge savings on your energy bills each month.

In addition, the investment that you make in solar, will add its exact property value–or more–to your home.

Security in investment

We only install premium quality panels and accessories which carry a 25 year guarantee providing you with peace of mind on your investment.

It's a Renewable Resource

Solar gets it energy from the Sun which provides ample free energy and is abundant in supply.
