Installed in Kardinya – 6163
Some roofs give you one big, clean north face to work with. This one in Kardinya didn’t. It’s a light grey Colorbond roof with hips running in several directions, a pair of whirlybirds sitting in the middle of the best-facing section, and very few long, uninterrupted runs. Getting close to 10kW onto it meant treating the layout like a puzzle rather than dropping a single block of panels in the obvious spot.
The System
The finished system pairs 21 Jinko 475W panels, making up a 9.975kW solar system, with a 10kW GoodWe ESA Series inverter and 24.96kWh of battery storage. The GoodWe ESA is an all-in-one unit, so the inverter sits at the top of the stack with the battery modules underneath it, three of them in this case. It puts a lot of storage into a small footprint, and the same stack can take more modules later if the household’s needs change.

The Install
Wesley Wright led the install. Rather than chase one large array, the panels were split into smaller groups across several roof faces: a run along the back of the house tucked between the two whirlybirds, and pairs and small blocks on the hips at the front. Mounting rails were kept tight to the sheeting, so from the ground the panels follow the lines of the roof rather than fighting them.

The battery went into the garage against a face brick wall, with conduit run cleanly up the wall, isolators in an enclosure alongside and the required safety signage above. A steel bollard was bolted to the slab in front of the unit. It’s a small detail, but it matters in a garage where a car pulls in every day.
What It Means for the Household
With just under 10kW of panels and close to 25kWh of storage, the battery has plenty to work with on a typical Perth day. Spreading the panels across different faces also means generation isn’t all squeezed into a short midday window, which suits a battery that’s filling up through the day and carrying the house through the evening. If you’re weighing up a similar setup, it’s worth checking our government grants page for the battery rebates currently available.
It’s not our first job in the area either. We’ve previously installed a solar and battery system in Kardinya and another just up the road in Murdoch.
