Boosting an Existing Solar Setup with Reliable Backup Power

This Hocking home received a recent upgrade with a 50 kWh AC-coupled battery system designed to work in conjunction with the homeowner’s current solar PV system. A smart meter was added for improved monitoring, and essential-circuit blackout protection was configured to keep key areas powered during outages.

What Was Installed

50 kWh AC-coupled Alpha ESS battery bank
Cabinet-style battery units arranged along the garage wall
Smart meter for enhanced visibility of energy use
Essential-load blackout protection
Neat and compliant conduit linking all battery and control components
Full integration with the pre-existing solar PV system

How the System Was Set Up

The battery cabinets were mounted with consistent spacing to allow for cooling and straightforward servicing. Impact-rated bollards were installed in front of each cabinet to provide physical protection.

Conduit and wiring were routed cleanly and securely to tie the battery bank into the existing inverter and the newly installed smart meter. With the AC-coupled configuration, the existing solar system remained unchanged, allowing the homeowner to keep their original inverter.

Backup protection was set up to ensure essential circuits remain active during a grid outage.

Key Advantages for the Homeowner

Significant 50 kWh storage capacity for night-time and peak-period use
Increased self-consumption of their solar energy
Smart meter providing real-time usage and generation insights
Reduced dependence on grid electricity
Backup power to selected essential circuits
A well-organised layout designed for safety and long-term reliability

Final Result

This upgraded setup in Hocking provides the homeowner with a dependable energy storage solution that complements their existing solar PV system. With large-capacity storage, enhanced monitoring, and essential-load backup, the installation delivers improved energy resilience and long-term value.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. DMG Solar & Electrical did an amazing job installing my 50 kWh battery and solar panels today. The team was friendly, professional, and very patient, taking the time to explain everything clearly. They even cleaned my garage after the job!

The work was done efficiently, at a great price, and to a very high standard. I’ve already recommended them to a friend and would happily recommend them to anyone looking for quality solar and electrical work. Thank you team!
