The story

This Westminster home sits among a cluster of newer houses with light-coloured Colorbond roofs, and this system is sized to suit the household rather than fill the roof: fifteen panels, a 5kW inverter and a two-module battery.

The roof has several faces, so the panels were spread across them in smaller groups rather than squeezed onto one. That gives the 7.125kW solar system a longer generating window through the day, with some panels catching the morning and others the afternoon.

The GoodWe ESA went into a brick alcove with textured feature blocks, with two white conduits running neatly up the wall to the roof, the isolator beside the unit and signage above. With two battery modules under the 5kW inverter, it holds 16.64kWh of storage, and a steel bollard at the side keeps it protected.

For comparison, we installed the same 5kW GoodWe ESA with a larger battery in Warwick, and there’s a Growatt system nearby in Balga. The ESA’s modular design means this home can add a third or fourth battery module to the same stack later if it needs to.
