Part of this Floreat roof isn’t really roof at all. A glass-roofed conservatory runs off the main house, letting light down onto a tiled courtyard full of pot plants, and it takes up a good chunk of what would otherwise be prime panel space.

So Shehan Gunasinghe and the team worked around it. The 13 Trina Solar Vertex S+ panels were split between the terracotta tile sections either side of the glass, in rows that sit close to the tiles and leave the conservatory clear. The result is a 6.175kW solar system that doesn’t shade the room below or crowd the look of the house.

In the Garage

The battery is a GoodWe ESA with a 10kW inverter and two battery modules, giving 16.64kWh of storage. It stands against the rendered garage wall on a painted concrete floor, with conduit brought down from the ceiling on neat brackets, the isolator on the wall and a steel bollard fixed square in front.

The 10kW inverter gives the home more room than it needs today. If the household later wants more panels, or a third or fourth battery module, the ESA can take them without starting again.
